Ñam, Santiago’s premiere event featuring all things food kicked off yesterday. With dozens of chefs participating from now until Sunday, surely there is a workshop or menu to suit your preferences. As Chile’s culinary scene has shifted in recent years to a deep focus on artisanal ingredients and heritage food ways, it will be interesting to see what is on offer at the festival this weekend. Located at Cerro Santa Lucía, and free to the public, Ñam is advertising this outdoor exposition as “an encounter with the best of Chile” (“Un encuentro con lo mejor de Chile”). With a claim like that, who can afford NOT to be there? Expect close to fifty vendors on hand to share the distinctive food stuffs of this diverse country.

Ask a Peruvian or a Chilean about the origins of Pisco and you’re bound to get two different answers.  In these two countries there is constant controversy over who started making this spirit, made from distilled grapes.  Not only the origins, but the discussion of “Who has better Pisco?” is continual.  Well, now you at least don’t have to worry about bickering. You can find out for yourself.

Do you like wine?  Talking with old friends and meeting new ones?  Talking about wine and learning a little in the process?  If so, then the ‘Tertulia de Vinos’ is the event for you.  Put on by the folks over at Instante de Vinos and WhereLunch.com, the tertulia, or chat, is a casual evening out in which wine lovers of all levels get together and share wine, talk about wine, gush over wine.  Less a tasting and more a casual way to learn a little more, the get-togethers are no frills.

The next event will take place on Tuesday, August 27 in Santiago’s Barrio Lastarria.  Caleta Lastarria will host the event, which starts at 8 pm.  For more information or to reserve a space, email Instante de Vinos at info@instantedevinos.com or call them at 569 77595987.  We’ll see you there.  Salud!  [via Instante De Vinos]
