Master Chef Chile Has Been Accused Of Fixing The Casting (ES)

By Patrick Hieger

Although Top Chef Chile is already off and running with a wildly popular inaugural episode, not everything is going so well in the Master Chef Chile camp.  After a long, final casting Sunday morning in Santiago, Twitter exploded with comments that the casting had been fixed.  Bio Bio reports that one of the cast members, Maria Jesus Matthei, who was also Miss Chile 2013, was given the chance to compete on the show after she cooked a dish of crepes.  Other competitors are saying the dish is just too simple to give Miss Chile a chance to compete.

Are we already witnessing a #GigiGate before the show even begins?  Let’s not forget that Master Chef is based on amateur cooking skills, and is, at the end of the day, a television show.  We’ll keep you posted with more drama.  Check out the scandalous Tweets over at Bio Bio.

And Here’s The First TV Spot For Master Chef Chile (ES)

The spring television lineup for cooking competitions is really heating up in Chile.  Although we’re most excited about Top Chef, which starts Thursday, September 25, Chile is also about to premiere its first season of Master Chef, which has caught on all over South America, with versions in Peru, Brazil, and Argentina.  The premiere of both shows at roughly the same time could make for some big changes in Chilean cuisine in the next few months, and will certainly make for some huge ratings.  Since we’ve already beat you over the head with previews of Top Chef, here’s the first TV spot for Master Chef, which should be hitting the screen very soon.  It’s a pretty good take on how the general public views food, and could be pretty representative of what to expect from the show.  Enjoy.

Although we don’t even have an official air date yet, the excitement around the forthcoming edition of Master Chef in Brazil is already heating up.  As we reported earlier this month, Brazil will be the fourth South American country, behind Peru, Argentina and, most recently Chile, to get a version of the show.  The prize for Brazil’s winner will be R$ 150,000 (approx. US $66,000).  Below, the exciting new TV spot.  Excited?

Brazil Will Be The Next Destination For Master Chef (PO)

By Patrick Hieger

After Peru, Argentina, and, most recently, Chile, Brazil will be the next South American country to get a version of Master Chef.  The São Paulo-based network Bandeirantes is in the process of pre-production and casting.  According to the network’s content director Diego Guebel, “This popular, international format unites two Brazilian passions: cuisine and the thrill of competition.”  Throw some samba in there, and you’ve got a party.  There’s no word yet on when the series will air, but we can bet the competition will be just as awkward as it is in more than 200 markets around the world.  [via C21 Media]

Chile Will Get A Version Of ‘Master Chef’, Too (ES)

By Patrick Hieger

And the wave of competitive food television has begun in Chile.  A couple of weeks ago we reported that national network TVN had bought rights to Top Chef.  Now Canal 13 has purchased the rights to Master Chef, and casting is underway.  Per Sergio Nakasone, an executive producer for the channel, casting opened this past Saturday, June 28Master Chef pits amateur cooks against one another in a culinary arena of sorts, offering up new challenges that the remaining competitors must complete each week.  The Chilean version of the show will join the ranks of Peru and Argentina.  Follow the show via Twitter, here.  It’s looking like next year’s programming is going to be a lot more interesting. Calling all Argentine cooks.  Have you ever thought about putting your skills to the challenge on, well, not quite the big screen, but a screen that could potentially be seen by millions of viewers?  Ever thought what it might be like to win money that doesn’t come from the black market?  Well, if you have, then you might consider trying out for the newest wing of Master Chef in Argentina.  Casting is currently underway for the new show that is set to air on Telefe.

Just like the show in the United States that started it all, as well as the Peruvian version and others, Master Chef Argentina will put seasoned home cooks–without a professional chef title or background–against one another in a culinary competition that will test speed, technique, and overall finesse in the kitchen.  The lucky winner of the show will be awarded a cash prize, the title of Master Chef, and receive scholarships to continue on into a professional culinary career.  Instant fame!  Boom!

To apply, head on over to Telefe’s website and fill out the application.  Think you’ve got what it takes to be Master Chef?  Now’s your chance to show it.  [via Gastronomico Net]
