By Patrick Hieger

The producers over at TVN do certainly know how to bait an anxiously-awaiting audience.  Although reports indicate that the Chilean version of Top Chef isn’t set to air until some time in late October or November, TVN has been busy creating video promos to get everyone ready.  In this latest clip, the head judges give us their stern faces and toss knives while talking about their own individual likes and dislikes.  For you fellas out there thinking that Pamela Fidalgo might make one hell of a catch, she makes it very clear that not even her husband was enough to keep her from the kitchen.  And don’t serve soup to Ciro Watanabe–he won’t eat it.  The moment we have information on the lineup of chefs, we’ll let you know.

Although we still don’t have an air date yet, and the casting was kept a complete secret, we now know who the head judges will be for the forthcoming Chilean version of Top Chef.  Like other versions of the program that have aired in Canada, Spain, and the original in the United States, the jury will consist of three judges, with a special guest judge to be chosen for each episode.  The head judge will be Pamela Fidalgo of the gourmet surplus and restaurant Coquinaria.  She will be accompanied by Ciro Watanabe of Osaka the W, who currently holds the number 48 spot on the list of Latin America’s 50 Best.  Rounding out the trio is Carlo Von Muhlenbrock, who is known for his extensive television work, as well as his restaurant Osadía.  The rumor mill has it that filming is already underway, and episodes could start showing as early as October or November.  We’ll keep you posted!  [via La Tercera]

Brazil Will Be The Next Destination For Master Chef (PO)

By Patrick Hieger

After Peru, Argentina, and, most recently, Chile, Brazil will be the next South American country to get a version of Master Chef.  The São Paulo-based network Bandeirantes is in the process of pre-production and casting.  According to the network’s content director Diego Guebel, “This popular, international format unites two Brazilian passions: cuisine and the thrill of competition.”  Throw some samba in there, and you’ve got a party.  There’s no word yet on when the series will air, but we can bet the competition will be just as awkward as it is in more than 200 markets around the world.  [via C21 Media]

Chile Will Get A Version Of ‘Master Chef’, Too (ES)

By Patrick Hieger

And the wave of competitive food television has begun in Chile.  A couple of weeks ago we reported that national network TVN had bought rights to Top Chef.  Now Canal 13 has purchased the rights to Master Chef, and casting is underway.  Per Sergio Nakasone, an executive producer for the channel, casting opened this past Saturday, June 28Master Chef pits amateur cooks against one another in a culinary arena of sorts, offering up new challenges that the remaining competitors must complete each week.  The Chilean version of the show will join the ranks of Peru and Argentina.  Follow the show via Twitter, here.  It’s looking like next year’s programming is going to be a lot more interesting. Thursday, May 9th, at 8:30 on el Gourmet, Argentina’s Soledad Nardelli will premiere her new show, “Un viaje a la Tierra del Fuego”.  The goal of the show is not to simply show off Nardelli’s talents, but to show the challenges that the area brings to cooking as well as the typical food the region has to offer.  Each week, Nardelli will use a new set of local ingredients for her dishes.  The kitchen will be set outdoors so as to not lose any of the beauty or grandeur that the setting has to offer by being stuck in a kitchen.  Nardelli just recently launched her Facebook fan page as well as an all-inclusive website.  The show premieres Thursday, May 9th, at 8:30 on el Gourmet and will air weekly.  [via Planeta Joy]
