Last year in New York City, Wines of Chile brought together nearly 20 of the city’s top sommeliers for a chance to win a trip to Chile. As part of a competition they called Wine Bar Wars, the participating sommeliers were divided into groups, then given two weeks to develop a bar from which they could serve and talk about the incredible variety and selection of Chilean wines. Not just a competition for the sommeliers, the event was a chance for more than 400 guests to taste the great wines for which Chile is gaining notoriety. More simply, it was a big, delicious promotional stunt.
